Traditionally there are two ways to reline complete dentures. The first and most commonly practiced is the hard reline method. Hard reline uses the basic self cured acrylic resin and monomer. The second one, soft reline is by using silicone based reline material which was introduced in the last decade.
The silicone material usually comes in paste form usually dispensed in tubes. Both procedures, hard and soft relines have their advantages and disadvantages for both patient and the dentist. Knowing when to use the conventional hard reline and soft reline is a must.
