Impacted wisdom teeth are teeth that have not been able to arise completely into the position they were expected to sit in. This may have occurred due to one of two reasons. One is that there is simply not enough room in the jaw for the tooth and the other is that angel of the tooth is not proper.
Some dentists like to describe impacted wisdom teeth in respect to the degree of impaction. One name is soft tissue impaction and this is when the tooth is just covered by the gum. Another name for impacted teeth is partial-bony impaction. This is when the tooth has been covered by the gum and some of the jaw bone. If it is covered under all the jaw bone and gum dentists call it complete-bony impaction.
Some people opt not to have their wisdom teeth removed. Some people are lucky enough that their wisdom teeth do not give them any trouble and they are able to keep these teeth and look after them like they would look after the other teeth in their mouth. This is especially true of people with large jaws as this means that the teeth have room to grow properly in their mouths. However this is not the case for most people and those who try to postpone the removal of these teeth may suffer problems.
